Somewhere to sit and something to work at: office chairs from a mesh task chair to reclining massage chairs with a footrest, an electric sit-stand desk, L-shaped and executive desks with drawers, long two-person desks and a conference table, and two monitor stands to raise a screen to eye level. Each chair lists the maker's weight rating and its seat or overall height, so you can check it against the desk it will pull up to.

What to check before you buy

  1. 01

Match the seat to the desk

A standard desk stands about 29–30 inches high, and most people sit comfortably with the seat 10–12 inches below the desktop. Check a chair's seat-height range against your desk — or, with a sit-stand desk, set the desk to the chair.

  2. 02

Massage and heat need an outlet

Massage chairs and heated seats run from plug-in adapters. Plan where the cable reaches the wall before you plan the corner, or the chair ends up parked by the outlet instead of the desk.

  3. 03

    Leave room to roll back

An office chair needs space behind the desk to roll out and turn. Measure from the desk edge to the wall or the next piece of furniture before choosing a long two-person or L-shaped desk.
