They pull the liner against the side of the tub instead of letting it billow inward and stick to your leg, and they keep the run-off on the inside where it belongs. At the top, the hook holes are metal grommets rather than punched slots in bare vinyl — that is the part that usually goes first, when a wet liner tugs at a plain hole until it splits. It is PVC vinyl, so it wipes clean rather than going in the wash. The maker lists it as mildew resistant, though no test or treatment is named, so read that as their claim rather than ours.
