What to check before you buy
Per-shelf capacity is the real number
A rack advertised at 2,000 lb means the total across every shelf, evenly loaded. What matters is the per-shelf figure and whether your heaviest tote exceeds it.
Check what the shelves are made of
Steel frames often carry particleboard or MDF decks. Those sag under point loads and swell in a damp basement. Wire or solid steel decks don't.
Confirm the assembled depth
Deeper shelves hold more but eat garage walkway. Measure the aisle you need with a car parked, not with the bay empty.
